3dmax renderer. Compositing in Photoshop.
The background mountains are created in 3dmax.
The characters are M3 and V4 with a couple of suits Xurge3D.

Excellent. What programs do you use? Any magazines you can recommend for the beginner or programs?

Actually the program you use is not the most important.
Today, most programs do similar things.
I use organic (an old program, metaprimitives based modeling, which is no longer sold, and that no one uses)
3dmax and Zbrush.
After mixing all in Photoshop ....

Nice render of people with ships and buildings. The curved designs of the suits and ships go well together against the blocky architecture of the buildings. This scene really makes me want to read up on any story behind if this was a book cover.
